Laptop Computers – They Can Be Ergonomically Sound

Users everywhere are discovering the mobility and portability of the laptop computer. They are finding their work and personal lives enriched by the ability to take their notebook computers anywhere and have all of their notebook files with them whether they are at home or at the office. As their notebook usage increases, however, some of these same notebook users are discovering a few of the attributes they miss about their desktop computers. Fortunately, the technology of notebook computer electronics allows users of notebooks to have the best of both worlds.

Notebooks – Keeping Your Standard Input Devices

For one, notebooks have generally smaller screens than desktops. While you can purchase larger and larger screens for notebooks, this raises the cost of laptops tremendously and also cuts down on one of the portability and mobility selling features: weight. Another part of desktops that some people prefer over their notebook counterparts is the keyboard design. Keys on notebooks are shallower, and often feel closer together. Perhaps the most common complaint of notebook users is the various mouse styles used on notebooks such as the touch pad and the “eraser” mouse found in the middle of the notebook keyboard keys.

Whether through the use of docking stations for notebooks or the ports in the back of notebooks, standard keyboards and monitors can be connected to a notebook to give it the feel of a desktop computer while still leaving the notebook mobile and portable. Most of the newer notebooks have USB ports where a keyboard and a standard mouse can be connected. Notebooks also have a analog port where a standard or flat screen monitor can be connected to the notebook. Used laptops or a cheap notebook may vary in the type of input device connectors they have – USB or serial - so it’s a good idea to verify the connections of a mouse or keyboard before purchasing them to use with a notebook.
