Olympus Digital Cameras: What are some special things that make this
camera manufacturer so impressive?
Olympus digital cameras have done some stuff to make you go hmmm! Olympus not
only has a variety of mega pixels, optical zooms, large LCD size screens and
movie modes with and without sound but in the middle of 2000, Olympus was the
first to add the easy and simple to use USB auto-connect. Now I know some may
say, Window XP allows this now however, before XP, Olympus had already put this
electronics technology in place. Not
only will it work automatically in XP but as far back as the Windows 98SE
operating system.
Digital cameras originally needed to have their drivers installed, prior to
the computer being able to access their photos. Olympus changed all that when
they decided to make their digital still cameras ‘auto-connect’.
The advantage Olympus has over other USB type camera manufacturers is the
ability to automatically communicate with a modern
computer operation system and mount
as a hard drive device without the need for any additional drivers or software.
All you need to do is open the drive icon and drag-and-drop the images to the
hard drive or folder of your choice. Current operating systems that support
Auto-Connect USB include Windows ME, Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP, Macintosh OS
9 to 9.21, and Macintosh OS X. Windows 98 second edition or SE and Macintosh OS
8.6 will also support this functionality with the addition of updated drivers or
extensions.
Also, Olympus carried over its all weather feature from its 35mm cameras.
Olympus users can take their all weather cameras fishing, hiking in the rain or
at the beach; as its weather proof seal keeps moisture and dust out of the
camera allowing it to take great pictures as a camera should.
