home -  electronics made easy :: plasma TV

Plasma TV can be used anywhere!

The Plasma TV is one of the greatest television technologies available today. The plasma television was first introduced in 1964 and improvements in processing and manufacturing have made this television one of the best. The plasma technology differs from other televisions like LCD and CRT televisions by combining all three colors within each pixel. A charge is sent by electrodes between the glass panels to change the state of the plasma gas. The red, green and blue phosphors glow, creating light on the TV screen.

Electronics within the plasma will create a great image

The electronics inside the plasma television can display many types of images. NTSC and HDTV signals can be enjoyed depending on your TV source. While watching your favorite DVD or TV program will be great, the best feature is the small space the plasma television takes up.

Hang it on the wall if space for your electronics is an issue. There are some great brackets available for your plasma that allow for flush mounting and some even have hydraulic arms to pull the plasma panel out for better viewing. Vogels and other manufacturers have made modular systems with cable management, where you can place your electronics underneath the mounted plasma as well. Watch out for heat if you mount it above your fireplace. Most plasma manufacturers give a suggested operating temperature.

One problem that plasma has had to overcome is the abundance of poor quality plasmas on the market. You get what you pay for, but you already know this. Yes, some plasma televisions do not last. If you buy a good plasma by a quality television manufacturer, it will last longer than any television you have owned up to now. Panasonic is one company I recommend and they suggest that their plasma panels will last at least 60 000 hours (most people watch 2500 per year).

Some plasma televisions are now available in either ED or HD resolutions. If you are planning to use the plasma with primarily high definition and/or with a computer, consider the HD model. If you are using it mostly with DVD, regular satellite, or cable, you will find the ED model with look great. Once again, a good manufacturers ED model will outperform a poor companies HD plasma television.
