Television Sets are Common in most Households
Television sets are owned by millions. Although, many homes have two or more
TVs as well, there are customers running out to buy the new digital
electronics. Almost 7 million DTV
(Digital TV) sets were sold in 2004 and the projections by the CEA (Consumer
Electronics Association) are stunning;
10.77 million digital TVs in 2005
16.77 million digital TVs in 2006
23.25 million digital TVs in 2007
27.05 million digital TVs in 2008
Many Different types of TVs exist today
Some of the most popular TV sets are quite different from the televisions our
parents owned. The CRT and CRT projection TV is being replaced with flatter
versions like plasma TV, LCD TV and the
larger LCD projection and DLP projection TVs.
Both the plasma and LCD TV sets can be
hung on the wall, while the LCD/ DLP rear projection TVs give you a big set for
a smaller price. An advantage over the older CRT rear projection television is
the brighter image that can be seen at greater angles.
A big change in the last few years is the move towards High Definition TV (HDTV)
sets that are built to support the ATSC standard (replacing the older NTSC). The
TV video is stunning and consistent when filmed in 1080i (interlaced) or 720p
(progressive). Your set top box will give you whatever the network broadcasts.
Digital TV - SDTV:
480i - 704 x 480 interlaced
