Used Laptops – One Way to Network
As usage of used laptops grow in work environments, there has arisen the need
for these portable and mobile devices to be connected to a company’s internal
network. This mobility is achieved through what is known as a LAN connection, or
Local Area Network. New laptops as well as
most laptops or cheap laptops have this capability in their
electronics to make a notebook
connection with internal networks, it simply depends on the type of hardware in
the notebook.
Laptop Computers – Connecting to the Office From Your Desk or Home
One way notebooks can be connected to a LAN is
through an Ethernet card connection internal to the notebook. This is often
contained on the motherboard of a notebook and is connected through the RJ45
port on a notebook. This is the port on notebooks that looks like a large
telephone outlet. Some laptop computers use PCMCIA cards that generally slide
into the side of a notebook computer. These notebook cards take special adapters
that allow them to then connect to an RJ45 cable.
More and more the LAN connections are being achieved through wireless router
technology. This allows a notebook user to be mobile and portable throughout an
office environment. It also allows a notebook user to connect to other mobile
wireless networks at other offices or in establishments such as coffee shops
that provide a wireless notebook connection. In these outside environments,
portable notebook users connect through the internet into a portal site that
links their notebook computers to their company’s internal network
